Abstract: Through the deep integration of multiple disciplines, interdisciplinary science is leading a transformation of scientific research paradigms, and has become a strategic scientific and technological field that all countries in the world must compete in. By systematically reviewing the concept and connotation of interdisciplinary science, as well as the exploration and practical experience of many countries, this article identifies three characteristics: organizational and networked, directive and universal, innovative and challenging, and three new trends: a gradually clarified legal status, increasingly prominent social benefits, and the gradual formation of a research ecology, of the development of interdisciplinary science. Building on the analysis of the interdisciplinary research landscape of developed countries and 他the previous researches on interdisciplinary measurement, it is found that the intersection of biology and artificial intelligence is the current hotspot in interdisciplinary research, with a primary focus on directions in carbon-based storage and calculation, bio-mimetic brain-like intelligence, and modern bio-medicine. Finally, the article proposes four suggestions for China in interdisciplinary science field: innovating organizational models, planning research directions actively, deepening cross-disciplinary integration, and enhancing institutional support.
